Besosssssssssss

Good Morning!!!

How was your weekend? I have disconnected a little and I have tried to gather strength for the week that awaits me. In Instagram you can follow me and see how it will be and next week I’ll tell you things here in the blog.

But today I’m going to talk about something that I loved and never seen before in person. The inner courtyards of some buildings in Madrid. There called «Corralas».

Two weeks ago I was fortunate to be able to stay in one of them, and I love fashion, I think architecture is like fashion, an art that you have to know to appreciate with all the context that entails.

The corralas are the maximum exponent of the popular architecture of Madrid, built in the sixteenth century until well into the nineteenth, they find their origin in the so-called «Insulae», the Castilian houses and Andalusian architecture. And the shortage of houses in those centuries, Madrid architects sharpened their ingenuity to take advantage of mere squares and devised the buildings we now know as corralas. They are also known as «corridor houses» by the corridor or hallway that they count on. The houses are distributed in several floors and the exteriors appear to the central courtyard, true neurological center and witness of the life of the community of neighbors there installed.

Nowadays, there are 500 corralas scattered throughout the neighborhoods of La Latina and Lavapies in Madrid, but you can find them, as was my case, in the Salamanca district.

I encourage those who are not from Madrid, visit if you can these emblematic buildings, and those who are and have not been lucky to see them yet, do the same, since we can not allow popular architecture to be lost and we must fight and worry about the history, culture and identity of this precious country that we have.

Kisessssssssss
